Woman charged over crash that injured cyclist

UPDATE 5.11PM: POLICE have charged a 39-year-old woman over a crash in inner Brisbane that left a cyclist with serious injuries.

The woman will face court on Monday charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.

She is also accused of driving while under the influence of an intoxicating substance and leaving the scene of the incident.

QPS said the woman was due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 12. 


EARLIER: POLICE have called for anyone who saw a crash between an SUV and a bike in south-west Brisbane on Saturday morning to come forward.

QPS said in a statement the bike rider was seriously injured in the crash at the intersection of Waterworks Rd and Baileys Rd in Ashgrove about 8.40am on Saturday morning.

"The rider of the bicycle, a 56-year-old man from The Gap was taken to hospital with serious injuries," QPS said.

Police said a 39-year-old woman from nearby Bardon was helping police with their enquiries.

"Investigators are asking for any witnesses to the crash and in particular for anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."

Police did not describe the vehicle.
