Premiership titles on the line

THE stage is set for two nights of great netball action when the Emerald association hosts its grand finals next week.

Monday night will see the three junior divisions’ winners decided, starting with the Intermediates at 5.15pm.

Wildcatz secured the first spot in the Intermediate grand final with a 29-19 win over minor premiers Fruity Tooties in Monday night’s semi.

This put Fruity Tooties into the preliminary final against Kit Katz, who defeated Phoenix 26-10 in the minor semi. Wildcatz’ opposition was decided in the knockout game played last night.

Claws will line up against Hellcatz in the Cadet B grand final at 6.30pm on Monday, after the former defeated Dynamite in a nail-biting 26-22 preliminary final this week. This promises to be a close match with Hellcatz hoping to continue their winning form while the equally determined Claws are keen to reverse the result from their semi final clash.

The Cadet A game at 6.30pm will also be a rematch of the major semi final between Young Guns and Mystix, with Young Guns focussed on repeating the outcome and winning the title. Mystix secured their place by defeating Foxy Ladies 42-27 in the preliminary final and are hoping to snatch the trophy from the injury-plagued minor premiers.

Tuesday night’s senior grand finals will open with the Division 1 showdown between Phoenix and Cyclones at 6.30pm. Phoenix secured the first berth in the match with an impressive win over Meerkats in the semi final last week and will be looking to complete their season with a grand final victory. Standing in their way are the strong-finishing Cyclones, who downed Meerkats 43-20 in this week’s knockout final to storm into next week’s final.

In what is predicted to be the game of the season, spectators can expect a fast-paced and physical contest.

Minor premiers ABM Mofo’s secured their spot in the Division 2 grand final at 8pm with a commanding semi final win over Benchwarmers last week. They will now face C Boms, who defeated Benchwarmers 36-26 in the preliminary final.

The other 8pm clash will be the Division 3 match between CQ News and Hot Shots. CQ News won the teams’ first finals encounter in last week’s semi, putting Hot Shots into the knockout match this week against B.A.B.Z.
