Shenhuo to buy surface rights of mine-affected properties

CHINESE miner Shenhuo has indicated it will buy outright or acquire the surface rights of properties affected by its Taroborah coal project.

According to the EIS, of the 11 registered owners of 19 properties within the boundaries of MDL, 467 "most have indicated they would sell at the right price".

Several landholders were concerned about the loss of amenity if a mine were to be operational.

The predominant land concern was the potential for the project to impact on the water supply by drilling into and accessing the aquifer beneath the tenement.
