Steak challenge a real mouthful

YOU can't prove your Aussie pride more than by taking on a huge hunk of meat with a side of beer.

If your stomach is solid enough to tackle 1.5kg of steak and if you can swallow the challenge with a side of chips and salad, then you could walk away with bragging rights from the Blackwater Hotel Motel.

The local pub has beefed up its previous challenge of devouring a 1.5kg steak and has added a 1.5kg steak burger to the menu.

Chef Tim Whitestyles says staff are ready for worthy contenders to win the challenge and walk away with a shirt, stubby cooler and a beer.

"It's a big challenge," Tim said.

Cooking the meat usually takes about an hour, with almost the same amount of time generally taken to chew it down.

"The challenge is to leave the plate empty," Tim said.

"The burger is two patties, lettuce, cheese, tomato, fried onion, cucumber and beetroot - it stands very tall."

Most people wouldn't be able to wrap both hands around it.

For Australia Day, the club is ramping up the rump and Tim said they would host a special challenge with the steak.

"Central Queensland is well renowned for our quality beef and for Australia Day we're going to have a huge challenge. I'm just deciding on what the prize will be," he said.
