Program will benefit businesses

TOURISM, Manufacturing and Small Business Minister Jan Jarratt has announced a multi-million program to drive Queensland businesses into emerging supply chains both at home and abroad.

Ms Jarratt detailed the new $7.5 million Productivity Hubs program at an investment forum, which was held at the Ocean International this morning.

The program was designed for small and medium-sized Queensland businesses, she said.

"Whether it is a tourism business in Cairns or the Gold Coast, a food processor in Bundaberg, or a business in the supply chain for mining or LNG in Townsville, Rockhampton, Gladstone or Roma, this program will put firms through their paces and have them come out the other end stronger, more flexible and better positioned to succeed," she said.

"Manufacturing businesses who have gone through our QMI Solutions pipeline have already reported $245 million in new sales revenue, efficiency savings and new investment over the past four years alone.

"Through this new Productivity Hubs program, we will be aiming to benchmark 500 local businesses so they can measure their performance against similar sized enterprises internationally.

"Those who keep working through the program will develop practical action plans to improve their operations with a business mentor available to support them as they implement new strategies and innovations.

"This project is aimed squarely at powering productivity and innovation upward and I am urging Queensland's small and medium sized businesses up for the challenge to step forward and participate."
