Lone ETU protestor Billy Bijoux stood his ground vs Ergon

LONE ETU protestor and union organiser Billy Bijoux stood his ground outside an Ergon Energy site as Energy Minister Mark McArdle met Ergon staff at a new project to improve the Mackay CBD electricity supply.

Holding a placard, Mr Bijoux protested government asset sales.

He said the Mackay cable work could not be completed without Ergon having to employ specialists from interstate or overseas to connect it. He said it should employ its own specialists.

However, Ergon Energy general manager service delivery central Steve Leighton said employees had the skills but the joining of the new multi-million dollar underground cable would be done by the supplier for warranty purposes.

He said this was usual.
