QLD set for widespread drenching rain

RAIN is forecast for most areas of Queensland throughout the next few days as summer conditions settle in.

Meteorologist Dean Narramore said throughout today showers and possible storms were likely to make their way up through the Darling Downs and into Brisbane before arriving on the Sunshine Coast.

At present there is a storm warning out for areas in the state's south-west, near the New South Wales border,

"Those storms should push their way into the south-east later today and or tonight," Mr Narramore said.

Tomorrow there'll be more rain for the south east as well as in the Gulf Country and Central Queensland, however, things are expected to dry up by tomorrow afternoon.

Up to 15mm of rain is forecast to fall on the Sunshine Coast throughout Friday and 25mm in Toowoomba and Ipswich.

There's also 20mm forecast for the granite belt throughout the day.

Saturday is expected to usher in an initially sunny weekend - with the possibility of an afternoon shower or storm across much of the state.

Hervey Bay looks set to cop its share of rain throughout Saturday with the BOM forecasting falls of 25mm - the same amount is expected to fall in Gladstone - while Bundaberg is expected to get 35mm.

And Sunday is expected to bring showers and storms to the northern and central interior of the state while the south-west and south-east enjoy a fine day.

Mackay looks set to cop a drenching from Sunday onwards - with up to 10mm forecast for the last day of the weekend, then 15mm on Monday and 20mm on Tuesday.

"It's pretty much always going to rain somewhere this time of year," Mr Narramore said adding the rainfall averages for December were certainly not near been broken yet.
