Queensland police stop driver after he crossed the line

A DRIVER who police say evaded officers while travelling over the Queensland-New South Wales border at Tugun on Thursday afternoon now faces 13 charges.

Gold Coast police were told by NSW officers that a man driving a suspected stolen car was heading north towards Queensland on the Pacific Highway at Tweed Heads.

When the car crossed the state line on four deflated tyres, it was picked up by local officers.

It will be further alleged that following a search of the car, a quantity of drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash, four mobile phones and a machete-style weapon was located inside the vehicle.

The A 30-year-old Molendinar man has been charged with one count each of:
• Unlawful use of a motor vehicle;
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
• Driving under the influence of drugs;
• Failing to stop a motor vehicle;
• Possess pipe; (that had been used to smoke a dangerous drug);
• Possess anything for use in the commission of crime;
• Possessing dangerous drugs;
• Possessing dangerous drugs (schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding schedule 3 but less than schedule 4);
• Possession of a knife in a public place;
• Receiving property obtained from trafficking or supplying;
• Receiving tainted property;
• Supplying dangerous drugs and
• Unlawful possession of restricted drugs.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday..

At no time was the Queensland Police Service in pursuit of the vehicle.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.
