Raising children is a most challenging yet rewarding role

THERE is nothing else quite like it. It's one of the world's toughest jobs, but also the most rewarding.

But a solid support network makes parenting much easier.

Debbie Flaherty, Maree Tisdell, Lyn Hughes, Bronwyn Sheehan and Jessica Heuschele run a free Triple P - Positive Parenting Program.

The most common issues they come across from parents relate to childcare, schooling and moving overseas.

The ladies have all brought up children and know first-hand how hard it can be.

"When people move towns where they aren't very happy and sometimes don't have extended family members, parents feel like they have no one around to help," Lyn said.

But she said wherever you lived there was support available - it was just a matter of finding it.

"There are lots of playgroups - some people are a little nervous at being the 'new people'," she said.

"In a playgroup setting, parents and children can meet new people and other kids their age."

Debbie said she had seen life-long friendships formed through playgroups.

Insecurities about parenting duties and achieving the "firsts" can be easily avoided.

"There are certain points in a child's life where there will be difficulties.

"Parents are thinking, 'Am I doing this the right way?'"

Often parents need someone to listen to them.

"Parents need to find someone they can talk to who is credible and they have faith in," Lyn said.

"All of the positives of parenting are simply wonderful," Lyn said.
