Emerald Rams brave in tough loss against Clermont Bush Pigs

IF ROUND one of the Central Highlands Rugby Union competition is any indication, the season will bring plenty of action.

The Emerald Rams played the Clermont Bush Pigs on Saturday and went down 27-19.

"The Rams went pretty well considering we lost," coach Greg Schwarz said.

"We were struggling for numbers, but the players we had played well and were very committed.

"We had no reserves and no spells, we are just happy to lose by two tries."

The Emerald scrum looked in fine form until Clermont called for uncontested scrums which Schwarz said was unfortunate because it nullified the visitor's attack.

"It's just for safety and it's fine," he said.

"But we had very limited opportunities to change our game plan. It was a good game apart from that."

The Central Highlands under-13 and U14 sides will take on teams from Rockhampton Grammar School at Morton Park on Sunday.
