Rare break gives Lowes lift

TOOWOOMBA NRL products Ben and Jaiman Lowe don't have the chance to get home very often.

With their hectic playing schedules, it's hard to find time to just unwind with family.

So the brothers have relished the opportunity to take some time out from gruelling pre-season training and relax at their Westbrook family home over Christmas.

"It's been good to spend time with family," Jaiman said.

"We all live in different places so the kids don't get the chance to see each other very often.

"I reckon it was about due. Pre-seasons don't get any easier."

The 28-year-old prop certainly has a lot to work hard for in 2012.

Unwanted by former club Souths, Jaiman reignited his first-grade career with Melbourne last season.

After falling one game short of a maiden grand final appearance, Jaiman was confident he can continue his NRL resurgence.

"My pre-season has been a little bit limited so far," he said.

"I've had a couple of niggling injuries so I just wanted to look after myself, stay out on the field and get my fitness back up."

Ben is also hoping he can improve his fitness after an injury-plagued season with Souths.

The 26-year-old backrower was named 18th man for Queensland in 2010 but battled a foot problem throughout 2011.

"I had a bit of a bung season. I only played five games," Ben said.

"I broke my foot in round one and tried to come back too early."

The Rabbitohs' forward pack is rated as one of the best in the NRL but many of their players struggled to stay on the field last season.

Ben was confident their luck would improve in 2012.

"I'm feeling pretty good," he said.

"We seem to be struck with a few injuries but the boys are looking fit. We'll be 100% for round one.

"We just missed the finals last year so hopefully we can do better."
