Redden keen to stay a Lion

ONE of Brisbane's most promising players, Jack Redden, has declared his intention to stay a Lion.

The 21-year-old South Australian midfielder's name has been brought up as a potential trade bait for Adelaide, which is expected to deal with the Lions at the end of the season over the services of Kurt Tippett.

It has been strongly rumoured for the past two years the big forward will return home to Queensland at the end of 2012 when his contract with the Crows runs out.

But, Redden, who has played 75 games for the Lions and is averaging a team-high 25 disposals this season, said yesterday he was keen to stay in his adopted state.

"I've signed on until the end of 2014, so I'm not moving home any time soon," he told afl.com.au. "I'm happy where the club's going. I think there's a bright future here as well, so I'm staying around Brisbane."

Gold Coast Guy McKenna, meanwhile, foresaw retiring ruckman Josh Fraser as a potential coach with the Suns.

It was announced yesterday, the No.1 pick in the 1999 National Draft will hang up the boots up after 218 games, including 200 with Collingwood.

"He's articulate, he knows football and I think he's got the balance right to make a good coach," McKenna said. "I think he can be hard when he has to be and can cuddle when you need to."
