Reds proving they are up there with best

LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard says his team's 3-0 win at Southampton has sent a clear message to its English premier League rivals that the Reds can win the championship.

Liverpool has not won the EPL crown since the Premier League came into existence in 1993, but Gerrard said the club was one of the favourites now after leapfrogging Arsenal and Manchester City into second, four points behind leader Chelsea.

"As captain, it's my job to help keep the team calm," Gerrard said.

"But we've certainly got a chance of competing (for the title). You've got to believe and have confidence."

Luis Suarez (pictured), Raheem Sterling and Gerrard scored the goals to seal the points.

Chelsea kept its own title challenge on track with a 3-1 win at Fulham, thanks to a second-half hat-trick for Andre Schurrle.

Arsenal slipped up at Stoke, with a John Walters penalty giving the home side a 1-0 win.

And Everton ended West Ham's good run with a 1-0 home win, while Newcastle won 4-1 at Hull.
