Reds sign flying giant Nabuli

FLYER Eto Nabuli has been re-signed for next year in a strong sign that he believes the Reds can develop him into more than a one-Test wonder.

The giant Fijian has been the biggest individual success under coach Nick Stiles because he has been transformed from a shy, uninvolved wallflower on the wing into an eight-try success.

Nabuli's debut for the Wallabies against Scotland last month was unspectacular but his form guide has always been that he needs to grow comfortable with new teams before firing.

His hat-trick against the Western Force in Perth in March demonstrated his imposing game when he winds up his 114kg frame.

"Eto has come out of his shell to show his potential this season and that's a reflection of enjoying his team environment and being more comfortable in rugby (after his NRL days)," Stiles said.

Settling in Brisbane with his young family has created a base the homebody would never find fending for himself in France where clubs are always chasing big, explosive Fijian wingers.

Nabuli still needs to get more involved off his wing to aid his team when it is on the backfoot.

Nabuli will have his hands full in Dunedin on Friday night where he is expected to mark the Highlanders' dynamic All Blacks winger Waisake Naholo.

The Brumbies are playing a dangerous game by resting stars en masse for Saturday's clash against the Chiefs in Hamilton, six days out from their home quarter-final in a week.
