Refreshed 2015 Mazda CX-5 launched from $27,190
Mazda's CX-5, a favourite amongst SUV buyers, has received a mid-life makeover, one the Japanese manufacturer hopes will not only sustain current interest but will also ensure this car continues to lead the field.
Available from February 1, prices start from $27,190 plus on-roads for the base Maxx front-wheel-drive manual
- $690 less expensive than its predecessor. The petrol Maxx Sport has been reduced by $830. Diesel models are down by $440.
The only price increases are on the range-topping Akera, which is up $840 for the petrol and $1200 for the diesel.
The CX-5, of course, has performed beyond even Mazda's expectations since it was launched in Australia early in 2012 with sales of almost 60,000 to date and the idea behind this nip and tuck is to keep that momentum going.
"The CX-5 was the number one SUV in Australia for the last two years," said managing director of Mazda Australia Martin Benders.
"It is exactly the right size for most people in the right segment at the right price. This car led the way for Mazda's recovery following the GFC and now we are making a great car better in every way."
The engines - the all-wheel-drive 2.5-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel and the front-wheel-drive 2.0-litre petrol - remain as they were with the changes coming instead to the funky exterior, spacious interior, quieter drive and safety and inclusions packages.
This SUV was the first to feature Mazda's Kodo Soul of Motion design language and that theme is carried forward with a new bolder front grille with horizontal fins, redesigned headlamps with LED lighting signature and new 19-inch alloy wheel designs.
Storage has been improved too with bigger door pockets and an open space around the gear shift knob to complement the large cup holders, console box and useful holders for smaller items.
All models are now equipped with Mazda's MZD Connect system which includes navigation and communication features as well as internet connectivity and access to social networking services.
Safety has always been paramount in the CX-5 and that package has been enhanced with the inclusion of Adaptive LED headlights which allows you to keep your high beams on at all times, Lane-Keep Assist, and Driver Attention Alert, available standard on the top-of-the-range Akera and as an option for all other models.
