7 missing people near Camooweal found safe and sound

UPDATE: A group of seven people reported missing with their vehicle in the Camooweal area have tonight been located safe and well.

A helicopter involved in the search along with an officer from Mount Isa police located the vehicle at 8.20pm this evening.

The vehicle with all seven occupants was discovered bogged approximately 12km southeast on Old May Downs Road from the intersection of Camooweal Urandangee Road.

The seven, five adults and two children, had left Mount Isa on March 11 heading to Lake Nash in the Northern Territory with the alarm being raised when they failed to arrive.

A second unrelated vehicle that had left Mount Isa today was also located bogged at the same place.

All located people have food and shelter with police planning to recover them from the area tomorrow.

Two other vehicles that had reportedly left Lake Nash to search for the missing seven have also been accounted for.

EARLIER: POLICE have commenced a search for motorists reported overdue late last night after travelling in the Camooweal area.

On March 11 a white Holden Colorado with seven people left Mount Isa intending to travel along the Old May Downs Road through Camooweal to Lake Nash in the Northern Territory.

The group consists of five adults aged 27 to 33, including a pregnant woman, and two children, under the age of six.

The alarm was raised when the vehicle failed to arrive at Lake Nash.

Two vehicles left Lake Nash today, each containing three to five people, searching for the missing vehicle but they have also not returned.

It is believed they may have all become stranded around 100km South of Camooweal due to heavy rain in the area.

A search involving helicopters and fixed wing aircraft commenced today with the area inaccessible by road.
