Residents warned to stay safe during heat wave

RESIDENTS are being urged to keep their cool as the Isaac Regional Council warns of a heat wave expected to hit by the weekend.

Mayor Anne Baker said the Bureau of Meteorology has forecast severe conditions for the Isaac region.

"While we will start feeling the heat today, the forecast increases to extreme and severe heat-wave conditions for the weekend," she said.

"Temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees in both Moranbah and Clermont.

"The heat knocks us around, but our elderly and children are more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

"On those hot days, please pop in on elderly neighbours, friends and relatives and check on pets."

Residents are advised to:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check on family, friends and neighbours
  • Look after your pets
  • Don't leave children or pets in parked vehicles
