Riots in US after police shoot black suspect

WISCONSIN, US, Governor Scott Walker has called in the National Guard following riots in a predominantly black Milwaukee neighbourhood where police killed an armed black suspect.

Milwaukee police chief Edward Flynn said the body camera of the black policeman who shot Sylville K Smith, 23, showed the suspect turning towards the officer with a gun in his hand.

Police said Smith was carrying a stolen handgun loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition when he fled after being stopped for "suspicious activity".

Hours after the shooting, businesses and cars were burned and guns were fired overnight by demonstrators.
