Robber caught on run
JUSTICE was swiftly served yesterday when a robber fleeing an Emerald pharmacy with an amount of pseudoephedrine and cash was caught and jailed within hours.
Emerald CIB officer-in-charge Detective Sergeant Mick Polit said police were called to Mayfair’s Discount Drug Store at 12.30am when a security firm alerted them the silent alarm had been tripped.
“Police attended and located a male person decamping the scene with a tyre iron,” Det Sgt Polit said.
“Police gave chase on foot and the man was arrested in a paddock behind the store.
“He was found with $500 and some pseudoephedrine-based medication.
“Located back inside the pharmacy was a large box with more than 20 boxes of the medication which he had taken off the shelves and was filling.”
Clynton Jeffery Guazzelli, 32, faced the Emerald Magistate’s Court yesterday morning and pleaded guilty to charges of enter premises and steal, obstruct police and possession of an implement used for the break-in.
Guazzelli, from The Willows, told the court he had been attempting to turn his life around and stole the medication for his sick partner.
“The community can’t wait for you to turn your life around,” Mgst Cameron Press commented.
Guazzelli was sentenced to 12 months jail. He will be eligible for release in October.
DET Sgt Polit said a 24-year-old Emerald man will face court on July 25 after he was charged with stealing $10,000 of sapphires and other precious stones from Emerald Inn on June 11. The gems were on display at the front counter and the man used a phonecall to distract an office worker, police will allege.
