Robbos on his way
CONTROVERSIAL and outspoken, former jockey-turned rugby league celebrity Allan Robinson has never been short of an opinion.
So it's a good bet that's not about to change when the former hoop touches down in the Central Highlands later this week.
Known for his charismatic appearances on Channel Nine's The Footy Show, Robinson will make a flying visit to Emerald on Saturday as guest MC at the Fast and Furious Fight Night.
In a prelude to his fight night appearance, Robinson will mingle with punters at Emerald's Maraboon Tavern from 12.30pm.
The TAB promotion titled 'Right on Track with Robbo' touts him having held "every NSW and Australian record including 111 suspensions and 224½ winners in a season".
"It used to be painted up like that (that I was a bad character) but I've left now and that's it," Robinson said referring to his contentious reputation as a jockey on the metropolitan race circuit.
A loyal Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles fan and passionate Queensland supporter, Robinson retired from racing soon after a sickening race fall in July, 2010.
The fall left him in such agony from repeated headaches, he described it as the worst pain he had ever experienced.
"One day I broke my collarbone, shoulder, three ribs and punctured a lung and got out of hospital the next day. It will be three weeks since this latest fall and I'm still slow and in pain," Robinson told southern media soon after his crippling Cessnock race fall two years ago.
