Robotics mastermind shares skills with students
TOOWOOMBA Anglican College and Preparatory School students were treated to a hands-on workshop from a robotics mastermind.
Visiting from Japan, Ritsumeikan Primary School teacher Yasufumi Kawarada spent yesterday teaching children how to build and program robots using Lego Mindstorms.
Mr Kawarada was the judge at the World Robotics Championships last year and is also one of seven Lego Education lead teachers in Japan.
TACAPS head of school Simon Lees said the workshops were a way for students to think outside the square.
"It's wonderful for our students to have such a world leading expert in robotics share his skills with them," he said.
"It's also interesting to see a different nation's curriculum.
"It allows students to think a little different and take them away from the traditional ways of learning."
Year 8 student Eileen Scott said it was a fun experince.
"Seeing how professional Sensei (Mr Kawarada) is and how cool his qualifications are we wanted to give the workshop a go," she said.
