The Rock shows off world-first Hercules footage in Sydney
DWAYNE Johnson spoke of wanting to make the "definitive" Hercules movie in Sydney last night.
The actor greeted fans as he walked a black carpet for an exclusive world-first sneak preview of his upcoming action movie.
Johnson plays Hercules, the mythical Greek hero famous for his strength as the half-human son of the god Zeus.
"Hercules was the first movie I asked about when I first came to Hollywood," Johnson told lucky cinema-goers at Event Cinemas on George Street.
"Five years ago my producing partners (Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia) started developing Hercules.
"We had the idea to do the definitive Hercules.
"The idea was to create characters and a look on screen that hopefully we'd never seen before."
With his girlfriend Lauren Hashian and daughter Simone Johnson also in attendance, Johnson told of the hard work needed for his "dream" role.
"It was the hardest I'd ever prepped for a movie," he said.
"Truly this role was a dream come true."
The 12 minutes of footage, a mix of 2D and 3D, introduced Hercules' ragtag band of "comrades", played by Ian McShane, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Aksel Hennie and Rufus Sewell.
Another scene featured Hercules with his face cast in shadow as he takes on a hydra in a murky swamp as part of his legendary 12 labours.
The preview also featured a key battle scene where Hercules and his mercenary buddies take on some tattooed and green-skinned foes.
Hercules opens nationally on July 24.
