New Wallabies halfback Nic White believes the fierce

RUGBY: New Wallabies halfback Nic White believes the fierce competition for the No.9 jersey can only benefit coach Ewen McKenzie's squad.

White has been in superb form for the Brumbies, but with just three run-on Tests, many saw his elevation ahead of dumped Reds half Will Genia for Saturday night's first Test against France in Brisbane as a surprising call.

The 55-Test Genia, who many believe is the best halfback in the world, was not even included on the bench, with Waratahs' Nick Phipps favoured.

"I think it's a good thing - it's a contested spot because we're all playing well. I'm very thankful to Ewen for giving me the nod," White told Fox Sports.

White's halves partner, NSW five-eighth Bernard Foley, said White was easy to build a combination with.

"He's a bit of a larrikin and he's easy to hang out with," said Foley, who is set to start his first Test.
