A MAN in his 60s has been airlifted to hospital with suspected severe chest injuries by the Surat Gas Aero-Medical Service after a quad bike accident late Monday afternoon.

The man and his son had been working cattle on quad bikes north of Roma.

A RACQ CareFlight spokesperson said the cattleman was injured trying to chase down a beast that had broken away from the herd.

It's believed his quad bike rolled breaking his collarbone and inflicting potentially serious chest injuries.

The Surat Gas Aero-Medical helicopter flew to the property from Roma just after 5.30pm.

The CareFlight specialist medical crew on board and QAS officers on scene spent more than 40 minutes stablising the patient before he was flown to Toowoomba Hospital for further treatment.

He travelled in a stable condition.
