Sally Faulkner reveals dad had taken child before

THE Brisbane mother at the centre of the botched Beirut child snatch now alleges her ex-husband had previously taken their daughter when just 10 months old, while friends say he had earlier begged her not to have the child.

Sally Faulkner has broken her silence about the failed attempt to snatch back her children Lahela, 6, and Noah, 4, in Lebanon on April 7.

On ABC's Australian Story tonight, Faulkner will reveal the history of her tumultuous relationship with her former husband Ali Elamine - including a new allegation he previously took Lahela from her when she was just 10 months old - as well as details of the failed recovery mission led by 60 Minutes and Adam Whittington.

The Courier-Mail has seen a rough cut of the first 11 minutes of episode one which airs at 8pm on ABC and iview.

Included are details of the alleged separation from her daughter Lahela, audio of the Skype call between Faulkner and Elamine when he first refused to bring their children home to Australia in June 2015 plus details as to how her relationship with Elamine and his family originally broke down.

Friends of Faulkner also allege that originally Elamine begged her "not to have this child" when she was pregnant with Lahela.

"I was most surprised that her husband had a little form in that area," said Australian Story producer Vanessa Gorman of Faulkner's shocking revelation.

"There was an incident where Sally was sent home without the baby and she wasn't allowed to see that baby (Lahela) for three months.

"That's new information and it's extraordinary. They found their way back from that situation and she was able to forgive him for that and they reconciled but just the fact that had happened before was surprising."

Faulkner broke down on the program when telling the story of how she was forced to leave Lebanon without Lahela.

"We went to hop in the car and we had Lahela's things all packed up and Ali said to me, 'Give Lahela to my mum, she wants a cuddle,'" a tearful Faulkner said.

"I handed her over; she took her and walked into the house. And my eyes just widened, my heart just started beating faster, I said, 'What's going on?' And he said, 'Lahela's staying here'

"I said, no she was only ten months old, nearly 11. We drove back for two hours and there was not really a word said but I cried."

In light of this, Faulkner said she still asks herself why she allowed Elamine to take the children on what was supposed to be a two week holiday to Lebanon in May 2015.

"What if I'd said no? I'm naive," she said. "I'm too trusting, I'm stupid, he's done this before."
