Students return to class following bomb threat

UPDATE: Students have returned to class following a bomb threat at Bremer State High School this morning.

Police told the QT they swept the school as per protocol and found nothing suspicious.

They said at least 16 police officers attended the school along with Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Fire and Rescue personnel.

Students spent about two hours on the oval while the school was in lock-down.

Investigations into the threat are continuing.

The QT understands at least 18 other schools across the state received similar threats this morning.

A Department of Education and Training spokesperson said the calls were similar to a recent string of threats made to schools across Queensland and interstate over the past three weeks.

 

EARLIER: Ipswich police have been called to Bremer State High School following a bomb threat.

Emergency services were called to the school about 9.30am following the threat which originated via phone.

Students have been evacuated to the school's oval.

Police told the QT they were are currently checking the school's grounds and there is a bomb coordinator onsite.

A police spokesman who is at the school said they were investigating who made the call.

They said the situation was similar to calls made previous to various schools across the state.

The latest incident took the number of confirmed bomb threats to Queensland schools to 23.
