School teacher accused of sex with 17-year-old student

A SYDNEY high school teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sex with her 17-year-old male student.

The 44-year-old woman was taken to Penrith Police Station from her St Mary's home on Tuesday after her husband spoke to authorities, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Police also searched the Year 11 boy's home and seized several items.

The New South Wales Department of Education immediately suspended the woman from teaching duties at her Western Sydney school and has offered counselling to the student.

The teacher was charged with four counts of sexual intercourse with a child between 16 and 18 under special care.

She was released on bail to reappear in Penrith Local Court on January 19.
