Scorcher called up by Bulls

HE HAS played only a handful of games in the state's top grade, but bowling all-rounder Matt Gale has made an immediate impression on Queensland selectors.

After showing his wares for the Sunshine Coast Scorchers, the 27-year-old has been called into the Queensland line-up for its Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia next week.

Scorchers coach Brad Murphy said yesterday: "It doesn't surprise me at all, his call-up.

"He's a big, strong fast bowler in the mould of Ryan Harris.

"He's a workhorse. He takes the ball away, bowls at good pace and he can keep bowling all day, so he's certainly got it all in front of him."

It has been a remarkable rise towards the top for Gale since his move to Queensland in the pre-season.

The former Victorian has been a strong performer in the XXXX Premier Grade, snaring a total of 11 wickets in five matches at 17.27, including a five-wicket haul against Wynnum-Manly.

He earned a Queensland Second XI debut last week.

Also, he is guaranteed a berth with the QAS for the Futures League Twenty20 tournament at the end of November, putting him in the running for one of two spots up for grabs in the Brisbane Heat when it plays the Twenty20 Big Bash.
