Scotsman's Trail set in paradise

JOIN New Zealand triathlon athlete Steve Gurney for a work out in paradise!

Fresh on the heels of the inaugural Samoa Swim Series event is the Scotsman's Trail - an 11 km run and swim challenge to be held in Upolu, Samoa on September 6, 2012.

The event is named after Samoa's most famous Scotsman, celebrated poet and author Robert Louis Stevenson.

Steve Gurney will lead fitness enthusiasts up and down a 10km track on Mt Vaea where Stevenson was buried as well as along Cross Island Road to the Samoa Tourism Authority Pier in downtown Apia.

Participants will then dive in for a 1km triangular course around Apia Harbour finishing once again at the pier.

Open to locals, visitors amateurs and pros, the Scotsman's Challenge is part of the Teuila Festivities and is held to encourage personal fitness amongst the community.

Steve Gurney is best known as a multi sport, adventureracer and triathlon athlete who has won the Coast to Coast challenge a record 9 times.

Challengers can train for this event at the nation's premier sporting facilities located at the Samoa Sports Centre in Apia.

  Considered one of the best in the South Pacific and built in 2007 for the South Pacific Games, it houses state of the art facilities for swimming, diving, rugby, volleyball, cricket and weight lifting.
