Scott the best of the Aussies as Day embarrassed by mix-up

GOLF: Adam Scott is the best-placed Australian after a rain-affected first round of the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick in Indiana.

Scott was on four-under par, three shots behind American leader Roberto Castro, who shot a seven-under 65.

The Australian still had eight holes of his opening round to play.

Americans Brian Harman (six-under) and Dustin Johnson (five-under) were among 33 players to finish round one.

A three-and-a-half-hour rain delay pushed play back and darkness brought a halt to the first round with 37 still to finish.

World No.1 Jason Day was one of those to complete his round but he is well off the pace on one-over.

Marc Leishman was on even par after 16 holes and Aaron Baddeley on one-under after eight.

Day will be looking to get back on track to secure one of the top 30 spots for next week's final event of the FedEx playoffs, the Tour Championship.

The Australian was involved in a bizarre incident before he even teed off, with the announcer mixing up his name.

After telling the crowd he was the defending champion, he said "from Australia, Jordan Day".

Day was a little taken aback but accepted the crowd's applause.

It didn't seem to help his concentration, as he opened with a bogey five.
