Sea Eagles, Sharks lose stars for second round

MANLY has named co-captain Jason King (pectoral muscle) and try-scoring winger David Williams (knee) for Friday night's blockbuster against South Sydney at Bluetongue Stadium, but has lost star fullback Brett Stewart.

Scans yesterday confirmed Stewart had sustained a low-grade hamstring tear in Saturday night's golden-point loss to the Storm, with the custodian expected to be sidelined for at least one week.

The news was worse for Sharks and New South Wales captain Paul Gallen (pictured), who is set to miss at least six weeks after scans revealed a grade-two syndesmosis ligament injury to his right ankle, suffered against the Titans on Monday night.

Fellow Sharks prop Andrew Fifita faces up to three weeks on the sideline after being handed a grade-two shoulder charge during the loss to the Gold Coast.

Fifita has until noon today to decide whether to contest the charge, or take the early guilty plea and miss two games.

Meanwhile, Newcastle has named Tyrone Roberts and captain Kurt Gidley in the team to play the Raiders on Sunday, although the pair will need to pass concussion tests later this week before being cleared to play.

They both left the field early in the match against Penrith last weekend after receiving head knocks.

Dragons coach Steve Price has named Sam Williams and Bronson Harrison for the clash against the Warriors at Eden Park on Saturday, in place of Michael Witt (shoulder) and Jack de Belin (leg).
