Selectors stick with Hughes

AUSTRALIAN opener Phillip Hughes has stayed a date with the executioner after selectors withstood the desire to make changes to the squad for the second test in Hobart.

Hughes - under pressure after only making 10 and seven in Brisbane - will be given another chance to prove his worth on the Bellerive Oval.

Uncapped all-rounder Daniel Christian was spoken about as a chance to make the Australian squad in the build-up to the second test, but selectors decided to stick with a winning side.

Australian captain Michael Clarke also hinted pitch conditions and the weekend weather forecast forbode against stacking the bowling options over cutting a specialist batsman.

Squads for the second test:

AUSTRALIA: Michael Clarke (c), David Warner, Phillip Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Ricky Ponting, Mike Hussey, Brad Haddin, Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon. 12th: Daniel Christian.
