Seniors on for young and old

SENIORS Week celebrations were in full swing in Springsure on Tuesday as 250 of our region's founding members gathered for some fun.

The activities held across the state to celebrate the week from August 15-23 had a theme of 'It's on for Young and Old', and there was no slowing them down when they converged for a lunch and good yarns.

Deputy Mayor Gail Nixon said it was a great day.

"We would not be here today enjoying the benefits unless you all put in the hard work," Cr Nixon said.

It was the eighth Seniors Week the Central Highlands Council had been part of and Cr Nixon said the event continued to grow.

Emerald's Colette Andersen provided jazzy entertainment and crowned the king and queen, with Blackwater's Frank Wilson, 91, and Capella's Effie Dahlenburg, 96, sharing the glory.

Effie and Frank both got to choose a councillor to "wait on them hand and foot" for the rest of the afternoon.
