Seth Rogen likens American Sniper to Nazi propaganda film

SETH Rogen has become the latest celebrity to wade in on American Sniper, saying that it reminded him of the Nation's Pride film-within-a-film the Nazis produce in Inglorious Basterds.

The actor is no stranger to political controversy in film, his latest movie The Interview having been aborted due to threats from hackers unhappy with its depiction of North Korea.

"American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that's showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds," he wrote.

After his comments were picked up in several publications, he later added as clarification: "I wasn't comparing the two. Big difference between comparing and reminding. Apples remind me of oranges. Can't compare them, though."

Dean Cain, former Superman and friend of sniper Chris Kyle - who was the subject of the biopic - wasn't happy.

"Seth...I like your films, but right now, I wanna kick your ass.  Chris is an American Hero. Period. Go to war. Then we'll talk," he tweeted in response.

Cain also took aim at Michael Moore, who was similarly critical of Clint Eastwood's Oscar nominated film.

"My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse," he wrote.

"Sorry to have to state the obvious again: Invading a country that hasn't attacked you is illegal & immoral. History will judge us harshly.

"Oh, and Iraqis are called "savages" throughout the film."
