Seven people injured in explosion in Sydney CBD

SEVEN people have been transported to hospitals in Sydney in the wake of an explosion in China Town. 

New South Wales Ambulance Service has confirmed a call came in shortly after 8.20pm local time to a premises Little Hay St in Haymarket. 

Upon arrival a total of 16 people were assessed however nine of those did not require transportation to hospital. 

A remaining seven were taken to hospitals across Sydney in serious but stable conditions with most of those involved being treated for lacerations or cuts.

Of the injured three have been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in the city's inner west, two to Prince of Wales in the inner south and two to St Vincent's in the eastern suburbs.  

A worker in a business on Little Hay St told ARM there were still police in the area and they had simply been told there was an ongoing operation. 

Channel Seven reports a gas leak was responsible for the blast which blew out the door on a loading dock and forced a nearby food court to be evacuated.
