Severe thunderstorm warning current for Rocky and Yeppoon
8pm: Heavy rain is falling in the Rockhampton district as a line of thunderstorms roll across Central Queensland.
A severe thunderstorm warning is still current and the storms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Gladstone, Rockhampton, Biloela, Yeppoon, Moranbah and St Lawrence.
Wind gusts over 60kmh were recorded in Yeppoon at 7.50pm and 61kmh at Emerald at 3pm.
The weather station at Rockhampton Airport was damaged by lightning last night and while wind gusts up to 41kmh were recorded at 7.24pm no rainfall is showing tonight despite significant falls.
BREAKING 3.15PM: WIND gusts of over 60km/hr have been recorded in Emerald with a severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Capricornia.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Roma, Emerald, Blackwater, Moranbah, Springsure, Carnarvon National Park and Seventeen Seventy.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 6:05 pm.
