How Shane Warne cleaned up with $20,000 win at Melbourne Cup

CRICKET legend Shane Warne had about 20,000 reasons to celebrate as close mate Lloyd Williams made Melbourne Cup history.

As Williams received his sixth Melbourne Cup trophy, Warne was counting the cash after backing the winner Rekinding and second placegetter Johannes Vermeer, as well as landing the trifecta.

Warnie had two $250 each-way bets on the first two past the post, and a $500 six-horse box trifecta that returned 416.67 per cent of the final dividend.

Rekindling paid $17.10 the win and $5.90 the place on the tote, and Johannes Vermeer returned $4.20, while the trifecta paid $3025.10

His return was more than $20,000, which is loose change for the Spin King.

Warnie shared his windfall on Instagram.

But Warne's big win paled into significance to Dominic of Mill Park, who became an instant millionaire after tipping Rekindling in the TAB's Cup Millionaire Promotion.
