BRETT Jones reckons Warwick Paralympian Carlee Beattie is in great physical shape as she approaches the most important week of her sporting career.
Jones coached Beattie to the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing and has been plotting her assault on London for the past four years.
The journey from Beijing to London has included Beattie setting two world records in F46 long jump, and winning a silver medal in long jump and bronze in 100m in the 2011 world championships in Christchurch.
"Carlee is much stronger physically and mentally since Beijing," Jones said.
"She is a senior member of the athletics team, a great role model and one of our most respected performers."
Beattie is one of 12 athletes competing in the long jump at 4.45am on Monday (AEST).
All 12 have three jumps and then the top eight will have three more chances to jump a medal-winning distance.
"I want Carlee to aim for a 5.6m jump with her first attempt to put the pressure on the others," Jones said.
Beattie holds the world record at 5.95m but as proved in the Olympics, performance on the day is what counts.
The personal best for the Warwick athlete is 30cm better than the next best in the field.
Jones has no doubt she can win but is wary of the potential for improvement in a 19-year-old from Russia who won gold in the event at the 2011 world championships.
In the T46 100m, Beattie has a best of 12.8 seconds and Jones has his fingers crossed she can finish in the top three or four.
"The favourite is a runner from Cuba who has the world record of 12.2 seconds," Jones said.
Unfortunately, Beattie will not get the chance to run a relay in London, and due to the early scheduling of the 200m is not competing in the longer sprint so she can concentrate on her best event, the long jump.
She planned to march in this morning's opening ceremony.
F46 Long jump final: 4.45am Monday (AEST).
T46 100m heats: 8.39pm Tuesday (AEST).
T46 100m final: 6am Thursday (AEST).
