Sharp shooter wins big
THE steady aim of Emerald pistol shooter Ken Green clearly needs no refining, the veteran marksman having cleaned up with two wins at the Central Zone Championships in Rockhampton at the weekend.
Green placed first in the zone in the air pistol and 50m pistol events and was tied for second place in the centre fire match.
After forging an enviable reputation among some of the state’s top shooters on the Gold Coast, the tree change to the Central Highlands seems to have been of little hindrance to Green’s outstanding results.
He said while they were fortunate to have the wind hold off during competition, there wasn’t much they cold do about the cold except rug up and keep a close eye on the sheet.
The near-spot targetry runs thick and fast in the Green household with wife Sandra also claiming two second placings at the championships.
But not even Sandra could match the superior skills of Isis Pistol Club shooter Julie Dunks, who showed great poise to win the women’s sport and air pistol matches as well as taking the three-match aggregate by a convincing margin.
Rockhampton’s Terry Ahern finished the points winner in the 25m standard pistol and rapid fire matches.
Ken’s latest win will come as no surprise to many at the Emerald Pistol Club.
He has a reputation as one of the most consistent competitors around.
