Shirtless Barcaldine firies star in calendar
TAKING off their shirts and picking up their hoses, members of the Barcaldine Auxiliary Fire Brigade posed for a steamy calendar.
The charitable bunch ditched their yellow uniforms to help raise funds for Barcaldine Aged Care Incorporated.
Mr March Dave Biddulph said it was an idea the crew had for a few years and they decided to make it a reality in 2014.
"We decided to raise money for some aged care facilities in Barcaldine - it is a great charity, we haven't got anything out here," he said.
"We have sold about 300 copies - we have had to reorder some because we only got 200 at the start.
"So far we have been able to donate $3000 to the facilities."
Dave said, while some of the firies were quite shy, other crew members faced the heat.
"It was a fair bit of fun on the night," he said.
"There were a lot of shots taken and a lot were discarded.
"Everyone was a bit camera-shy and it was hard to find the right poses.
"A few guys waxed their chests."
Dave said they weren't planning another calendar but had some useful feedback for next time.
"We have had a fair few comments from some elderly ladies in town, who wanted us to take more gear off," he laughed.
All funds from the calendars will go to the first stage of independent living units for the aged care complex in Barcaldine.
Barcaldine Aged Care Incorporated has been raising money for six years and has more than $1 million in assets.
The group needs $3m before building can begin.
