Reader solves mystery of 'gun shots fired' in Rocky CBD

8.10am: THE mystery surrounding the 'gun shots' fired in Rockhampton CBD this morning has been solved by a reader.

Police have interviewed a number of people from The Range to William St in Rockhampton, with most reporting they heard noises similar to gun shots.

However, police were unable to determine what the cause of the noise was or where exactly it came from.

A reader of The Bulletin called the newsroom to clear up the mystery.

He said he was getting out of his ute out the front of his work place on Alma St when he heard the noises.

He said he thought it was gun shots and was about to duck for cover when a motorbike came up the street.

The motorbike was backfiring as it traveled past the reader.

"When he went into the car park, the bang was 10 times louder," the reader said.

He explained the carpark - at Ergon Energy in the CBD - was an underground carpark.

7.35am: POLICE are investigating the sound of shots fired in the Rockhampton CBD this morning.

There were four shots fired in a matter of five minutes about 7.30am.

The shots could be heard from The Bulletin office.

Police have received calls from the public and off-duty police officers.

Patrols are now being conducted in the area to find the source of the noise.
