EDWINA Tops-Alexander and Julia Hargreaves could help Australia literally jump up the medal ladder today.

The pair has kept Australia's hopes of winning a showjumping medal alive after qualifying for tonight's final of the individual jumping at 8pm (AEST).

Tops-Alexander and her mount Itot du Chateau finished fourth after incurring just four penalty points at Greenwich Park to progress, while Hargreaves, on her Olympic debut, scraped into the 35-rider final after picking up 13 points on her horse Vedor.

It was not all good news for the Aussies as James Paterson-Robinson knocked one too many rails down and ended with 21 penalty points to finish 45th and miss out.
