Vicious attack on pet horse

WHO could bring themselves to shoot this innocent pony, Pumpkin, straight between the eyes?

That is the question a Baffle Creek mother is asking over and over after yet another one of her pets became the vicious target of a "low life" wielding a pellet gun.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, has previously had two dogs shot about a month ago, with Pumpkin the pony being the latest victim, on Friday.

"The pony was given to me a few weeks ago as it was going to be put down," she said.

The family arrived home to their rural property on Friday, after delivering fire wood to a friend's house.

"We came home and pulled the ponies out and she's got this bullet hole in the middle of her head," she said.

"Her whole head swelled up for the night."

Fortunately, the woman had antibiotics on hand and immediately administered them to the injured animal.

"Pumpkin survived.

"Thank goodness I've got a brilliant vet who talked me through it on the phone."

The woman said the three attacks on her animals had taken its toll on her young children.

"They are getting used to it happening - unfortunately," she said.

She said she did not understand why someone would target her animals that were kept secure on their acreage.

"My big dog that got shot, he's just so beautiful," she said.

"Now we can't let the dogs out because they are just going to get shot."

She said she was sickened by the attacks.

"I'm just disappointed - my babies are my babies," she said.

"I can't fathom it, really.

"I just don't get how you can maim an animal."

The incident has been reported to Rosedale Police. Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
