Harvey Norman 'unofficial airport parking' axed in Emerald

IN A move Emerald residents have been highly anticipating, the Central Highlands Regional Council has decided to put a stop to people parking outside the Harvey Norman carpark to avoid airport parking fees.

In this week's council meeting, infrastructure, assets and public facilities general manager Geoff Brayford said council was on its way to erecting signs at the problem area.

Parking restrictions will be put on the street, with no parking allowed between the hours of 6pm and 6am.

The site will be enforced by police, who will be able to issue parking infringement notices for any vehicle parked in the signed areas overnight.

The move comes just weeks after a car was stolen from the area, and councillors agreed it would help curb the issue.

Mayor Peter Maguire said he was pleased with the progress and looked forward to seeing the signs erected.
