SYDNEY Harbour could become home to a technology hub like Silicon Valley under a New South Wales Government plan to transform a disused power station.

Premier Mike Baird called for companies to submit proposals from next week to convert White Bay Power Station into a tech job haven.

"We have an opportunity as part of this to bring some of the best companies in the world right here to our harbour," Mr Baird said.

The transformation is the first step in a 20-year plan to divide 95ha of land around the harbour foreshore into eight sections, including a new housing precinct.
