Simona sorry for actions leading to de-registration

BANNED Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona has taken to social media to publicly express his shame and regret for the litany of off-field issues that led to his deregistration from the NRL.

Days after revealing the full extent of his gambling and drug additions in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Simona posted a message on his personal Facebook page and Instagram account.

The former Samoan international apologised for his actions and pleaded for forgiveness as he looks to rebuild his life.

Simona has received countless messages of support from current and former rugby league players, including Brad Fittler, Braith Anasta, Sandor Earl and James Gavet.

He made no excuses for his behaviour, which includes his bitter falling out with his ex-partner following an abortion and pocketing charity money to feed his own gambling addiction and drug use.

The ex-Tiger also thanked his friends, family and colleagues for their backing through an extremely difficult period for him personally.

"It has been a tough couple of weeks," Simona wrote in his post.

"I have let a lot of people down and am so sorry for the things that have happened.

"My story has been embarrassing to see on the news, like it's not me but I know it is.

"I feel embarrassed, ashamed, angry and upset, but can't blame anyone but myself which I need to live with.

"Hopefully over time people can forgive me and be supportive as I work on making changes in my life for the better.

"Thanks to everyone who has already shown their support to me, it has truly meant a lot."
