Slow Webber at a loss

MARK Webber lived life in the slow lane in Sunday's German F1 Grand Prix.

Having to start from eighth on the grid after a five-spot penalty for replacing a gearbox before qualifying, the Aussie was unable to improve on that and finished 46.9secs behind race winner Fernando Alonso.

Webber said he was at a loss to explain why he was so slow.

"I just couldn't do the lap times," he said. "We thought about doing something different strategy-wise, but if you don't have the pace you can't even do that."

Webber remains second in the standings on 120 points, 10 clear of teammate Sebastian Vettel and 34 points adrift of leader Alonso.
