BIG Day Out organisers have shot down an Australian newspaper's report speculating on the headlining acts for the upcoming Big Day Out festivals.

The Herald Sun reported reunited Britpop act Blur, grunge titans Pearl Jam and rapper Snoop Dogg would headline the festival, which is returning to New Zealand on January 17, 2014 at Western Springs Stadium and Park in Auckland.

The official line-up for the Australian legs of the festival will be made at 8pm on Wednesday, with the New Zealand line-up confirmed at 6am Thursday morning.

Not all the acts confirmed for Australia will make the trip to New Zealand.

The Herald Sun story, written by notorious rumourmonger Nui Te Koha, also said Arcade Fire, Major Lazer and Steve Angello were strong contenders for the festival line-up.

But Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit said the paper's story was "lonely guess work".

He tweeted: "Nui wouldn't get invited to the opening of a wound so I wouldn't trust his lonely guess work ..."

New Zealand promoter Campbell Smith told radio station The Rock the line-up would be one of the best yet.

And Australian promoter Ken West has said: "I was hoping for one White Whale, managed to get two and ended up with three."
