Solar panel bid goes to Origin

ORIGIN has won the tender to install a 30kw solar panel array at the Gympie Sewage Treatment Plant.

Apart from the requested 30kw tenders, companies also submitted 68, 71, 40, 45, 31, 50, 78, 42 and 102 kilowatt quotes.

Cr Ian Petersen said he understood that council had asked for 30kw tenders but questioned why a 50kw tender, that came in at less than a 30kw tender, had not been considered.

"Every one of these tenders was assessed," council's Ian Schiefelbein said before going on to explain that not all tenders were for solar panels that went on a roof.

When Cr Larry Friske asked why it had to be on the roof, Mr Schiefelbein said: "We do not want too much access to it."

He also said because of the Origin good name, that the council got a better guarantee.

"There was not very much between tenders."
