A VAN driver caught doing nearly double the speed limit in a suburban Coast street has police calling on drivers to slow down.
Sunshine Coast district Crime Prevention Unit officer-in-charge Brad Grant said a motorcycle officer clocked the man doing 114kmh in a 60kmh section of Karawatha Dr at Mountain Ck about 11.50am on February 29.
"There was no excuse offered by the driver for driving at this speed," Senior Sergeant Grant said.
He was issued a $1,099 speeding ticket and could face up to six months without a licence.
"The possible consequences for driving at this speed in a residential area don't need to be explained," Snr Sgt Grant said.
"Drivers that choose to do the wrong thing like this on Sunshine Coast roads need to consider that any car or motorcycle coming toward you or following behind you could be a police vehicle with a speed detection device.
"Police do operate unmarked cars and motorcycles on the Sunshine Coast fitted with speed detection devices.
Snr Sgt Grant said road safety was everybody's responsibility.
"Slow down for everyone's sake."
